Whale Wave to Young Love~

WhaleWaveToLoveMy latest card, so far (of course, there will be more to come).  Which I made back last month.  My personal favorite of mine, and also is the crowds’ one of favorites.

Now, why is my own favorite of mine, and perhaps my reason why is also why most people like it too.  Well, one, the original piece was a birthday present to the guy in the picture, in fact.

Two: not to brag, or to show off, or anything, but I’m quite happy how it turned out!  The colors, line art, and the couple.  As I’d love to have all of my art pieces good as this one; then again, when I was drawing it, it had to be perfect- or at least, almost perfect. (^~^)

Three: Overall, I think it is because this precious piece is of the thought of picture, and the thought I put into it.  The dedication and hardship for the time I took to do it; happiness and hopes of that he’d like it (he loved it)!

I hope you agree with my reason why I like- ahem, I mean love this masterpiece.  If there’s other reasons you think so too, please feel free to share.  I’d love to know!

Well, thanks for coming by and reading my…love post I guess.  Heh.  Anyways, thanks again.  And see you in the next post!  ~Rahal out

The Path of a Growing Artist

AikidoOfKohala_sml_BAA.jpg

Aloha, everyone, howzit going?

I’m back and with new stories and new artwork!  As you can see, above is my latest card, “Aikido of Kohala Ft. July & Roxanne “Roxi”.

I have recently moved on from chicken art to making characters for my artwork now.  So, let me introduce to my two girls, July and Roxi!

July Jubilee Malara is a serious Aikidoist, and you noticed, she has blue, which is pretty high in the belt ranking in Aikido.  At least, being higher than red belt, which Roxi has.  July is also a detective-in-training, taking after her late mother, Priya.  She’s a real sweetheart, and loyal to those she cares about, and has a serious, but friendly personality.  But you gotta watch out if you make her mad, she’ll glare you down with her ice cold, blue eyes, making you frozen almost!

Then there’s Roxanne “Roxi” Manon Onyx, who’s a young heiress, along with her younger twin brothers, Dominick and Chester, whom she calls them “Domino” and “Chess/Checkers”.  And who has the power to turn into any mythical creatures and such (examples; griffins, the kraken, the dire wolf), and you can probably imagine how powerful she can be with all those forms with their powers.

Roxi isn’t your typical person who’s a heiress, or a bookish type, Roxi has a undoubtedly out-going, almost crazy, and fiercely loyal personality, but is quite intelligent about various things.  So, with Roxi’s wild character and July’s mild-temper, and competitive personality, they balance each other and are absolute best friends!

Soon, you guys will meet a bunch of my other characters in future cards!

And yes, for the past several months, I have been taking Aikido class!  I have gone through so many different groups and activities ever since I moved up here in Hawi over a few years ago; 4-H, volleyball, book club and finally I fell in love with Aikido last year.  And over the past several months I have been practicing, everyone felt like an extended family to me.

Aikido is more of a self-defense martial art, with more of a spiritual practice, than a physical one.  If you want to know more, and if you interested, here’s their website!  http://www.aikidoofkohala.org/

And I’ll see you folks later!  Wild out! ~Rachel

My First Commissioned Artwork

I love to draw…especially chickens. My mom and I have been making cards out of our artwork and sharing them at the farmer’s market.

Our friend, Aunty Susan opened a new eating place in Hawi called Sweet Potato Kitchen and Takeout. She asked me to paint some of my chicken art to display at her new place. Here’s the first one and a picture of me with Aunty Susan.

Come over to her place sometime for some good food and to check out my art.

The Big Island

I live on the island of Hawai’i, most simply call it the Big Island.  It’s bigger than all the other Hawai’ian islands combined.  It resembles a mini-continent with such different climates from tropical rainforests to the cold mountain of Mauna Kea.  You can surf, boogieboard, snorkel, paddle board or swim along the shore or out in sea.  If you like golf, there are lots of golf courses for you and your friends to enjoy.  It’s a great time to come to Hawai’i in the winter, Humpback Whales come to Hawai’i to give birth to their calves,  by May they will go back to Alaska.  You can get a better view of the whales by boat or somewhere high along the coast.  In the summer, the water is so clear that you can see all kinds of fishes even without goggles!

Landscapes include one of just about everything: mountains, high sea cliffs, rolling pastures, deserts and rainforests.

My favorite things to do here are at the beach like being pulled on the boogieboard by my father and then sliding along the sand and spinning!  I love to see the green flash right after the sun goes down.  I also love seeing the humpback whales spouting and holding Jackson chameleons.  Here on the island, we have lots of farmer’s markets.  We go to the Hawi one to share our homemade eats and treats and some of my artwork.  The best thing is meeting my friends and playing around the market!

I love it here on the Big Island living with my family and my chickens!

Stripes’s Adventures

Hi, my name is Stripes and I had lots of adventures.  My first adventure was fighting for pecking order with my brother, Pecky.  I lost and ended up with a red face and swollen eye.  Rachel’s mother tried to stop us from pecking, but our mother, Rosie was mad at her, so Rachel’s mom didn’t try to stop us anymore.  My second adventure was when I was on top the compost pile in the chicken run and spotted our neighbor’s truck coming up the road.  I honked to tell the other chickens.  My third adventure was the worst.  I was lost for three days, on the third day Rachel found me under a tree  and Rachel’s mother took care of me with coconut milk and then I got better and stayed close to the house and liked to follow Rachel’s mother when she visited the run.  My fourth adventure was one day while I was walking near the stairs leading to the deck and it was so windy that I was blown onto the deck and against the deck rail.  Rachel yelled to her mother “there’s a dead chicken on the deck,” but I was not dead.  Rachel’s mother checked on me and I opened one eye and looked up to her and she said ” Stripeypoo, are you all right?” she then picked me up  and took me out of the windy spot so Rachel could take me back to the run.  My fifth adventure was going to a new home in Hawi with my brother, Pecky, because Rachel could only keep one rooster.   I hope Rachel and her mother come and visit me soon.

Aloha from Stripes and Rachel!

Our Hawi Booth

We go to the Hawi Market on Tuesdays and Saturdays.  We share and sell Coconut Chews, Pickles, Raw Atsara (Green Papaya), Sauerkraut, Marinara Sauce and Handmade Cards and Bookmarks.   The Coconut Chews are a tasty treat and good for you.  The Pickles are spicy and tasty with sandwiches and salads or  you can eat them straight from the jar.  My Father says the Raw Atsara is best thing on the table.  It’s great when eating meats and you can put it on top of salads and sushi.  The Sauerkraut is tasty and it has only two things to make it:  local cabbage and Hawaiian sea salt.  The Marinara Sauce has a sweet taste and it is ready to put on top of your pasta.  My Mother and I have fun making many different Handmade Cards and Bookmarks.  Hope you come visit us!

Aloha from Rachel.

About my Mother and my Father

My Mother likes to paint, bake and cook.  She lets me help with the Breakfast and I help her with feeding the chickens.  She helps me with my blog posts and she likes to talk to the chickens.  She makes good food to eat and she makes the stuff that we sell at the Hawi Market.

My Father is good at making me crack up.  He is a good chef for a good meal.  He is the one to make the drinks for us and is good at selling our stuff when my Mother and I go around the Farmer’s Market.  He can swim at the beach like me!  We like to walk at the beach.  He spends his time studying the Truth.

Soon, my Mother and my Father and I will have a New Baby!  We are a happy family in Hawaii!

Aloha from Rachel.
